Relay for Life

Our next adventure of the summer was Relay for Life! This was the first time our family did this special event. For those of you that don't know what the Relay for life is, it is an organization that raises money for cancer research. It brings together volunteers, survivors, family members of those that have been affected by cancer in some way and we try to raise money for cancer research. Jocelyn, Jake's sister, was in charge of the Relay in Rexburg this year. She did a wonderful job and it was a pleasure to participate in the event. I had a hard time staying up all night and ended up going to Jenni's house around 4:30 am. I just couldn't make it. But Emma made it all night! She was quite the trooper! She loved every minute of it. She enjoyed all the activities they offered and she won quite a few prizes. Jack and Charley did great also, they made it till midnight. They loved walking around the track! Jane, also Jake's sister, had them put a bead in a jar every time they went around the track and they loved being able to track their progress! As part of the ceremony, they do a lap around the track with all the luminaries lit representing loved ones who have fallen victim to cancer. As many of you know I lost my dear friend, Michelle Main, to brain cancer this last March. I bought a luminary for her and lit it in her behalf. I miss her a lot and hope that one day there will be a time when someone else will not have to lose someone dear to them by finding a cure. I have put a few pictures of her here and the relay we participated in.

  2. This was beautiful. I loved all the pictures--especially of your beautiful friend Michelle, whom I had never seen before. I can't wait to do this again next year with everyone! The picture of all the kids together wearing their Hope T-shirts brought a lump to my throat. These kids are the reason I have hope for the future!! Thank you so much for posting this, Lisa, and also for joining us in the Family Relay!! Come on 2010!!
